Piazzetta delimitata da via 20 Settembre, vico Brienza e vico Viggiani.
Lo stradario, a ricordo del compimento dell’Unità d’Italia, dedica a tutti i “martiri lucani” delle insurrezioni dal 1799 al 1860, lo slargo baricentrico della città, sacro per tradizione antica in quanto già intitolato alla Dea Mefite, per la presenza di un sacello o di un tempio a lei dedicato, e poi a San Nicola.
Mommsen, epigrafista tedesco, vi trovò diverse iscrizioni latine. Ritenne, infatti, che questa fosse l’area in cui la Curia romana amministrava la giustizia.

The road, in memory of the achievement of the Unification of Italy, dedicates to all the “Lucan martyrs” of the insurrections from 1799 to 1860, the barycentric widening of the city, sacred by ancient tradition as it is already named after the Goddess Mefite, for the presence of a chapel or a temple dedicated to her, and then to San Nicola.
Mommsen, a German epigraphist, found several Latin inscriptions there. In fact, he believed that this was the area where the Roman Curia administered justice.
